About this place
Compiled from the listed sources below — not a first-hand account.
Chatsworth House, near Bakewell in Derbyshire, is the Peak District seat of the Dukes of Devonshire, whose pinetum — laid out around 1830-31 by Joseph Paxton for the 6th Duke — was among the first conifer collections in England and originally included a giant redwood. Today the grounds hold mature giant sequoia and coast redwood (the latter recorded by RedwoodWorld), with grand trees dotted across the garden. Garden access is by paid admission and can be booked separately from the house.
